The first weekend in August was one of the biggest events in GKR Karate’s calendar and an occasion for many firsts in GKR’s history. It was the first time the World Cup was hosted in Queensland, Australia. It was also the first time that GKR Karate had attempted – and successfully broken – a team Guinness World Record whilst also assisting our good friend Shihan Glenn Coxon break an individual Guinness World Record. Over 1000 competitors from all around the GKR globe came to Coomera on the Gold Coast to compete against each other in the true spirit of karate-do, demonstrating their best technique and fighting skills. Competitors from as far away as the United Kingdom, USA and New Zealand joined our large Australian contingent to come together as one martial arts club. The standard was outstanding but the camaraderie and true karate spirit was even greater.
